Bradford featherweight Eddie Meskry hopes to be a hit on the small screen next month when he makes his TV debut.

The 29-year-old is on the bill for the November 11 show at Halifax, which will be shown live on Frank Warren’s new boxing channel.

Meskry, who lives in the Little Germany area of the city centre, was given the opportunity after catching the eye with a lively win in a recent show at Elland Road.

Facing a much taller and heavier opponent, the Mark Bateson-managed fighter unloaded some powerful shots to take all four rounds of a surprisingly open contest against Mansfield’s Rob Sharpe.

Meskry said: “He was a last-minute replacement after my opponent pulled out and was a lot bigger than I’d expected.

“It ended up as a featherweight taking on a light-welter! He was massive.

“I just kept moving and making sure I didn’t get caught with any of his shots. If I’d started getting giddy trying to throw lots and he’d connected, then I would have been in trouble.

“He was keen and definitely not there just for the pay day. He wanted to win and had a real go.”

Sharpe tried to use his bulk advantage to push him on to the ropes with little joy and referee Phil Edwards awarded the contest 40-36 to Meskry.

It was a good way to bounce back after being stopped last time out by Leeds debutant Terry Broadbent at the same venue in February.

The recent win was Meskry’s second in four paid-for outings after turning pro two years ago and his aggressive fighting style has caught Warren’s attention.

Meskry will be aiming to produce more of the same in front of his TV cameras at the North Bridge Leisure Centre.

The eight-fight action will be shown on Boxnation, channel 456.
