City of Bradford youngsters showed impressive form as they opened the new season at the Yorkshire Swimming Association Winter Championships in Sheffield.

Youth Commonwealth silver medalist Sian Morgan topped the rostrum in the 14-years-and-over 100 metres freestyle at the Ponds Forge venue.

She also broke the Welsh senior record in the 200m individual medley in a time of 2min 15.05sec, beating the existing best held by international Jemma Lowe by 0.30.

This earned Morgan a Yorkshire silver medal and she added another silver in the 100m butterfly, bronze in the 100m backstroke and took fourth place in the 100m breaststroke. These swims opened her account for the 2012 national championships.

Ten-year-old Myles Stirk produced some outstanding performances to clinch county gold medals in the 200m individual medley, 100m freestyle and100m backstroke. He also claimed fourth place in the 100m butterfly.

Matthew Brown dipped under the minute mark in the 14-years 100m freestyle to place second in a time of 58.45 and also took home bronze in the 100m backstroke.

Jasmine Hanson, 13, was in confident mood as she swam a well-paced race to earn bronze in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:22.36.

George Acton was fourth in the ten-years 100m individual medley, fifth in the 50m breaststroke and seventh in the 50m freestyle.

Ryan Allen, swimming as an 11-year-old, had fourth and sixth final placings in the 100m backstroke and 200m medley events respectively.

Breaststroke specialist David Brown narrowly missed a podium place in the 100m breastroke when finishing fourth in 1:05.54 in the 15-years-and-over event.

Others who notched up one final placing each were Elle Pickett, Abigail Shuttleworth, Isobel Mawson, Isobel Stirk, James Lund and Aidan Sheldon.

Along with a host of personal best times, these swims suggest that the City club can once again look forward to a successful season.
