Talented youngster Jack Clarkson (Pedalsport CC) won the Jonathan Noble Memorial ’Cross at Temple Newsam Park in Leeds – the fourth round of the Yorkshire Points Cyclo-Cross Series.

The 18-year-old from Halifax outsprinted Tom Last (Sigma Sport), the 22-year-old from Derbyshire who had been tussling for the lead all afternoon.

Initially there were four riders battling it out at the front, which was run on a hot, hard and fast day, the other two being in-form junior Joe Moses (Paul Milnes RT) from Oakworth and Adam Martin (Cestria Cycles).

The group was whittled down when Martin had mechanical problems, while the pace proved too much for Moses, who steadily dropped back to finish third around 30 seconds behind.

Rob Watson (Paul Milnes RT), still recovering from his efforts at the Three Peaks the previous week, was fourth at 45 seconds down but was feeling better than he did the day before at the Notts and Derby League where he failed to finish, saying he had nothing in his legs.

Birkenshaw 15-year-old Billy Harding (Paul Milnes RT) rode superby to finish eighth and was first youth, Seb Marsh (Paul Milnes RT) coming third youth, while Skipton’s Ed McParland (GT Racing) was 11th, Bradford’s Graham Bird (Bradford RRC) 15th, Robin Bradbury (Airevalley Cycles) 21st and Otley’s Richard Thackray (Paul Milnes RT) 28th.

Former national champion Chris Young (Wheelbase) beat fellow Keighley rider Matt Denby (Zepnat RT) by 22 seconds in the veterans’ event, where Chris’ younger brother Mike (Pedalsport) was fourth.

Phil Hinchcliffe (Bradford RCC) was eighth, with Seth Smith (Paul Milnes RT) from Cowling ninth.

Adela Carter (WXC MTB Team) was the fastest woman, with Marie Jackson (Paul Milnes RT) second.
