BRADFORD NO 1 AA

Congratulations to James Vickerman on winning the men’s aggregate weight trophy for the second year running with a total weight of 80lbs 14.5oz from the seven-match series. The ladies’ aggregate weight was won by Jackie Sugden with 6lbs 4oz.

The final members’ match of the year was held at Cowthorpe on the River Nidd. The winner was Chris Pitman with 18lbs 12oz. Second was James Vickerman with 17lbs 14½oz, followed by Pete Vickerman with 10lbs 3oz.

Some stretches of the River Calder are closed this Sunday for the fifth round of the Calder League. Teams should meet at the Black Bull at 9am.

The annual meeting and prize presentation is to be held on Wednesday at Spenborough United Ex-Serviceman’s Club, Cleckheaton. All members are welcome to attend on production of a current yearbook. Seats must be taken at 7.30pm prompt. There will be a free pie and pea supper.

WASHBURN VALLEY

Catch details for week ending October 2 – Day ticket: Fewston 37, Swinsty 12. Total fish caught: Fewston 129, Swinsty 35. Average per rod: Fewston 3.5, Swinsty 3.0. The heaviest fish weighed 8lb 5oz and was caught by J Boba, using Dawson Olive. Both reservoirs now filling up with fresh water. Good quality trout caught on surface by daddy longlegs, muddler minnows and lures. Big fish now feeding in the margins – October is always an exciting month.

LISTERHILLS AA

The open match at Rodley was affected by heavier-than-usual boat traffic. Result: 1 J Needham 2lb 12oz, 2 M Mannion 2lb 3oz, 3 L Passey 1lb 2oz. 4 E Harrison 15½oz, 5 T Melling 13oz. The draw for tomorrow’s final open match of the Saturday series is at 9am by the bridge. The next Sunday match is on October 16.

HEWENDEN AC

The next match will be held on Sunday, 9am draw in the car park, £10 all in. Please note there is no near side draw. Will all members please take care and drive slowly down the lane approaching the car park, especially when crossing the cycle route by the old railway bridge. Be aware of the large boulders by the track.

GREAT HORTON AC

The latest match was at Carpvale on October 2. Results: 1 P Tiffany 32lb 10oz; 2 O Hudspith 22lb 7oz, 3 K Noutch 21lb 4oz; 4 J Sutcliffe 13lb 6oz.

BRADFORD CITY AA

The river Ure at lower Dunsforth is producing quality nets of roach, perch, gudgeon and chubletts. Also bream to 6lb and barbel to 7lb are now starting to show. The next match is on Sunday on the River Ure at Lower Dunsforth. Tickets are £15 all in and available from the match secretary on 07875-275749 or 01423-523368. There are now three golden pegs – two at £100 and one at £10.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC

Our trip to Liverpool Bay on Wednesday went ahead but fish were hard to come by, given that the anglers were fishing in a gale gusting to 53 mph. All together, 25 Thornback Ray were caught and a sprinkling of Whiting and Dogfish. The winner was Dave Kitchingman with 191 points, including a Thornback Ray of 6lb. Second was Paul Parker with 83lb, while David Taylor was third with 78lb. Our next general meeting is on Tuesday, October 18 in the New Inn, East Bierley (8pm). New members will be made most welcome.

BRADFORD PALS AC

Directions for this Sunday’s match at Marshlands (Barton-upon-Humber) – After you cross the Humber Bridge, take the first exit left on the A1077 to Barton-upon-Humber. Head down through the town following the one-way system towards the river until you pass the railway station and then turn left onto Butts Road. Follow this road for about 1,200 yards, then turn left onto Pasture Road North. Go over the level crossing and follow the road around to the right. Marshlands is the second fishery on the left.
