BRADFORD No1 AA: The Calder Championship was won by Nigel Hirst with 14lb of roach to earn him almost £600. John Nuttall had 12lb 2oz to finish second and Tony Peel came third with 11lb 13oz. A total of 83 anglers fished this match. Some of the club’s sections of the River Calder are closed this Sunday for the fourth round of the Calder League. Tickets are still available for the final members’ match of the year at Cowthorpe on Sunday, October 2. Reports of nets of roach over 10lb have been reported from Beal and Birkin. Knotford is producing quality roach up to the pound mark. The club have gained the fishing rights on the canal at Milby Cut, Boroughbridge, which incorporates three pegs of the River Ure. LISTERHILLS AA: From now until the end of the year the subscriptions are reduced to £6 for seniors and £3 for other classes. The draw for the Ian Smith Memorial Open match at Rodley on Sunday is at 11am. The officials’ Rose Bowl mach on the River Ouse was won by E Harrison with a mixed catch weighing 13lb 6oz. Runner-up D Jackson landed 3lb 8oz. This trophy was presented in 1928 by Peter Logan, who played for Bradford City when they won the FA Cup in 1911. The result of the Leeds Grandparents’ Association open charity match at Rodley is as follows: 1 M Marrion 4lb 8oz, 2 R Theme 2lb 11oz, 3 M Peat 2lb 6oz, 4 G Kitchen 1lb 10oz, 5 E Harrison 1lb 8oz. WASHBURN VALLEY: The heaviest fish caught during the week was an 8lb rainbow trout by Kev Dorman using black pennell. Fewston & Swinsty: Lots of cool fresh water carrying worms, bugs and flies washed from stream beds has entered all our reservoirs this week and has spurred trout into feeding. Natural nymph and buzzer patterns are working best. Thruscross: Wild brown trout are feeding at all depths now, with just two weeks of the season left. BINGLEY AC: The fish were not showing in the numbers expected for Sunday’s match on the River Nidd at Tockwith. The river had a couple of feet extra in, although it was not bursting the banks. The results were as follows: 1 A Greenwood 16lb 1oz (four chub), 2 I Ward 2lb 8oz, 3 J Clarke 2lb 1oz. The next match will be on the River Aire at Steeton bridge (moved from the canal) on Sunday, October 2, with fishing from the bridge to Sutton Beck End. There are just a few places left.
