Embassy B duly completed a Bradford Summer League double by adding the Bower Cup to their Division Two title – but only after being pushed all the way by holders Pudsey in an exciting final.
The Embassy trio of Neil Foley, Parminder Sandhu and Ziggy Cwiklinski all recorded 3-1 victories over Steve Smith, Sandra Rider and Doug Bartle respectively to open up a 27-point lead after three sets.
Smith and Rider stemmed the tide in sets four and five and Embassy led by 26 points with one singles and three doubles to come.
Bartle proved too strong for Foley in the last singles, winning 42-26, and Embassy now had only a ten-point lead with the doubles to finish.
Smith and Rider took the first of those by four points, before Rider and Bartle combined to win the second by two points – leaving Embassy just four points ahead and Pudsey on the charge.
In the final doubles, Smith and Bartle led 10-7 in the first game and the margin was now a single point.
But Foley and Cwiklinski took four points in a row and never allowed Pudsey to get close again as they triumphed 43-32 to edge over the line.
The Yorkshire League programme begins on Sunday and two Bradford Veterans teams are in action in Division Three. Bradford Seconds are away to Leeds Thirds, while the third team visit Keighley Seconds.
