Bradford youngster Sam Thornton shone in the G Star 2011 Diving Competition at the Leeds Acquatic Centre, winning one event and finishing runner-up in two more.
He claimed first place in the 14/15-year-old boys 1m event and was second in the 3m and platform disciplines in the same age group.
The platform event was particularly keenly contested, as after the first round there was only 4.8 points between the top ten divers.
Thornton had led the event all the way but was overtaken during the final by Southampton Diving Academy’s Alistair Khakoo, who led him by just 3.15 points.
Sam made up for this during the boys 3m event though, where he led the preliminary event on the 6th round of dives by a whopping 36.5 points.
Other impressive performances from the 12-strong team representing the City of Bradford Esprit Diving Club included Michael Jones, who made the finals in the boys A+ platform event and took the silver medal, while also finishing seventh in the 16+ boys 1m event.
Ruby Bower, who dived her way into the final on platform in the girls group C event, also placed well by finishing fifth, as did William Hallam, who dived in the boys group C platform event and finished both the prelim and the final in sixth place.
