Hollins Hall are celebrating at the double after two of their teams qualified for the prestigious Matchplay Championship grand finals at the Els Club in Dubai.

Father and son Graham and Patrick Young will take part in the men’s pairs event, while Denise Smith and Darren Wallis are through in the mixed competition.

Both pairings won through the regional final, played at their home course, and can now look forward to a luxury trip to the Middle East next month.

“This is amazing, to have come through the North Regional Final at our home course and qualify for the once-in-a-lifetime Grand Final in Dubai,” said Bradford Union player Patrick Young.

“The competition was always going to be stiff, as everyone has won five matches just to get to this stage.

“But the course was in fantastic condition and the tournament staff ensured we were involved in a professionally-run event from start to finish.

“Finishing five under par for the last four holes was the highlight of the round and we’re looking forward to getting out to Dubai with the opportunity to bring the Matchplay Championship back to Yorkshire.”

Meanwhile, Smith and Wallis also successfully emerged from thousands of entrants in the UK’s largest amateur golf tournament.

The grand finals will be filmed by Sky Sports cameras, giving the Hollins Hall quartet the chance to shine in front of a television audience.

They will enjoy seven nights of accommodation at the Dubai Marriott Harbour Hotel and three days of competition at the renowned Els Club.

The remainder of the 36-player final field qualify from the South Regional Final at Marriott St Pierre near Bristol.
