He picked up £600 for winning this match. Keith Hobson (Maver Barnsley) finished second with 18lb and Dave Armitage was third with 16lb 15oz. Some of the club’s stretches of the River Calder in Brighouse will be closed again on Sunday for the fourth round of the Calder League. Gratrix Dam is fishing well for large chub, as is the gravel pits section of the River Calder. Knotsford is worth a visit for bream. There will be some disruption at Royds Hall this week and care must be taken as heavy machinery is putting a new pipe on the dam wall.

WASHBURN VALLEY: The heaviest fish caught during the week was an 8lb rainbow trout by Dave Harvey using Ace of Spades. Fewston & Swinsty: Water levels are still down, allowing more access to fish those favourite spots. Cooler weather is now spurring bigger fish to feed on both dry fly and nymph. Lures are also taking fish. Thruscross: Wind and rain is making fishing for wild brown trout hard work. Fish are rising to daddy longlegs. Catch details (week ending September 19) – Day ticket: Fewston 21, Swinsty 10, Thruscross (catch & return) 2; total fish caught: Fewston 87, Swinsty 39, Thruscross 5; average per rod: Fewston 4.1, Swinsty 3.9, Thruscross 2.5.

LISTERHILLS AA: The draw for the Ian Smith Memorial open match at Rodley on Sunday is at 11am. Proceeds will go to the British Heart Foundation. Call 01132-639333 during shop hours. D Jackson had a good perch, part of a mixed catch taken in a short session.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC: Our next fishing trip to Rhyl on Saturday, October 2 has one place left. Anyone wishing to go should call Brian on 07901-717615. At our general meeting we finalised trips for next year. We have a couple of Whitby in-shore trips in November and December. If members would like to book on, let Brian know. Skippers are saying there is an abundance of small cod around the east coast and this should make for a bumper season in two years’ time.

SALTAIRE AA: The bottom section between Salts Mill Weir and Baildon Bridge is closed to anglers for an outside match booking on Sunday. We need some members to consider serving on the committee. Contact any committee member for further details. Elections take place at the AGM in November. Proposals should be submitted to the general secretary in a written format (paper, e-mail or via the website) before Monday, October 4.

BINGLEY AC: Many large barges from the Skipton end and a never-ending tow on the water killed any chance of good weights in Sunday’s canal match.
