City of Bradford Swimming Club member Sian Morgan is on the way to the Commonwealth Games, despite all the problems that surfaced this week about collapsing structures and poor accommodation in India.
The 16-year-old, who is the youngest swimmer in the Welsh squad, has set off for a week-long holding camp in Qatar prior to going to Delhi.
Morgan was identified as a prospect at the age of 13 and was one of the first beneficiaries of Bradford Council’s and SportsAid’s b active sports grants, receiving £1,000 to help her develop her skills in the run-up to the London Olympics.
Steeton-born Sian has been coached by Andy Pearce, from Bradford Council’s Aquatics Programme, for the last six years and is the first City of Bradford member to compete at the Commonwealth Games.
Morgan, selected for Wales as her father is from the principality, said: “I’m so happy that all the hard work over the years has paid off.
“It has been a difficult year trying to balance my schoolwork and sitting my GCSEs, with all the training and trials.
"I’m so excited now and can’t wait to get to India. I hope it will be the best experience of my life.”
