Newly-promoted Pudsey TTC A were always going to find life tough in a strong Bradford League Division One this season but, after five straight defeats, they turned the form book upside down to draw with title-chasing Dewsbury Sedbergh.

Joanne Roberts and Doug Bartle kept Pudsey in contention with two singles each but Dewsbury still led 5-4 after Richard Lightowler had taken three for the visitors, before the deciding doubles saw Bartle and Sandra Rider triumph 11-7 in the final game to share the spoils.

Hermits A had also made a bad start, managing just a draw in Division Two, but secured that elusive first victory against Laisterdyke A.

Steve Golden and Chris Town won two each for Hermits, who led 5-4 until this pair overcame Fazal Hussain and Stuart Beaumont 11-9 in the fifth game of a nervous deciding doubles.

Division Two leaders Unity B are one of only two teams who still have a 100 per cent record but they faced a tough challenge against Thornbury as they were missing Dave Rawlins and Jim Ferry.

But their replacements from the C team came up trumps, with Craig Priestley dropping only two games in winning all his singles while Steve Whittaker added one and Dave Renton chipped in with two as Unity triumphed 6-4 to maintain their perfect start.
