Femi Fehintola had to fight back tears before his emotional ring comeback.

The Bradford super-featherweight was involved in his first bout for a year – and first since the death of his dad.

And Fehintola, who has dedicated the rest of his career in his memory, admitted the emotion of the moment nearly got to him.

He said: “I could feel the tears as I was coming into the ring. I also had a few flashbacks from being knocked out by Ryan Barrett because it was exactly a year on.

“A lot has gone on in 12 months and I’ve got a new trainer and team as well. So for me, it was a case of getting over stuff.”

Fehintola impressed trainer Joe Gallagher in the Sheffield fight by winning all six rounds against sturdy journeyman Sid Razaq, putting him down in the fourth.

Fehintola added: “The feedback has been very positive and it was an exciting fight.

“Fair play to Sid, who came and had a go. At one stage, I lost my footing in some water and he rushed in but I caught him with a sweet left hook.

“I felt stiff as a board in there at first because it had been so long. But I know I will be a lot more relaxed in my next fight.”

That is set to take place at Valley Parade on Saturday, December 5, and Fehintola is thrilled with the prospect of performing at home.

He said: “The support I’ve had from the Bradford people has been second to none. They were screaming and shouting last week and it made all the difference.

“It will be great to fight here in Bradford and I can’t wait. I’ve been straight back in the gym this week.”
