It was a good week in the Bradford Table Tennis League for three Hermits teams, who were all seeking that elusive first victory.

Hermits B, in Division Three, were hopeful they could get off the mark when entertaining Laisterdyke B, who were also without a win.

The visitors won the first two sets through Azim Afzal and Mohammed Murtaza but Chris Town proved too consistent and turned the match in Hermits’ favour, winning all his singles in straight games.

Dave Robinson and Tom Sampson chipped in with one each, and Hermits won the doubles 11-7 in the fifth game to break their duck.

In Division Four, Hermits E were also without a win but a fine all-round team performance saw them overcome Pudsey B.

Hermits were 3-2 down as Linda Sanderson won two for Pudsey but the home side took the last five sets with Roger Swithenbank, Joe Healey and Steve Mills all winning two each, culminating in a 7-3 success.

Hermits J had managed only six sets in their first three matches and defeat number four looked on the cards as visitors Bradford B opened up a 3-1 lead.

Chris Willey won three and Howden added two as Baildon moved 5-3 ahead.

John Rawnsley stopped Jewson in the last singles and teamed up with Gordon Tilbrook to take the doubles as Hermits broke their losing sequence.
