Bradford No 1’s snooker side travelled to Castleford No 1 in the Yorkshire Inter-District League and came away with a very creditable 3-3 draw against the defending champions.

John Wellham took the opening frame 50-45 for Bradford against Mickey Tomlinson 50-45, coming from 27 behind with 22 on the table. Wellham laid two superb snookers and picked off the remaining colours.

The second frame was scrappy and Wellham could have pinched it but Tomlinson levelled the tie, winning 70-34.

Kevin Firth put Bradford back in front with a 53-47 win from 25 behind with the colours remaining.

Daniel Womersley levelled, taking a scrappy fourth 48-16, before Sajid Khan took frame five, coming from behind to win 77-49, holding his nerve well after county player Pete Fisher made a 36 break.

Fisher however, ended the match in fine style, making runs of 28, 28 and 23 for 79-21 and a share of the spoils.

Bradford’s No 2 billiards side hosted Huddersfield No 2 at The New Cuedos Snooker Club and continued their good start with a 5-2 victory.

Bradford’s Paul Devitt trailed by 40 early on against Frank Griffin but won 200-124.

Paul Davies came in for the unavailable Richard Bowes and, despite a lack of good running, only went down 200-177.

Captain Richard Lodge took on John Ingleby and fell 50 behind 50 after Ingleby’s 41 break.

Lodge hauled himself back in the game with a 42 and needed just 11 to defeat his opponent. Ingleby, needing 43 to win, made a break of 41 before Lodge won 200-198.

Some confusion exists over the make up of the two Bradford sides.

Bradford No 1, who take on Harrogate on Saturday (7.30pm) at Queensbury Conservative Club, consists of Brian Watson, Stephen Kershaw and Nigel Stebbings after competing as last season's sole representatives, with Lodge’s recently-reformed side taking the No 2 mantle for this season.
