Bradford Dragons comfortably beat visitors Stockport Falcons 83-58 in English Basketball League Division Three North at Trinity Green to hold on to top spot with Sheffield Sabres.

Playing tough defence from the tip-off and moving the ball rapidly in offence, Dragons cruised to a 24-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, stretching it to 52-35 at half-time.

Dragons struggled to recover their offensive fluidity in a slow third stanza, which they edged by one to lead 64-46, before coming out firing for the last period of play, with nine players getting on the scoresheet to give a 25-point winning margin and their fourth consecutive victory.

Team manager Mike Thompson said: “We were pleased that the defence gave us a platform for the game.

“Luke Malek stepped up with four treys in the second quarter.

“Now we have a big game in two weeks’ time against Loughborough.”

Sean James top-scored with 19 points, with Malek and Daumants Pabrieza both hitting 14 points Dragons play Hull Wasps this Saturday in the second round of the National Shield, tip-off at Trinity Green sports hall, Trinity Road, Brtadford at 6.15pm.
