Asa Briggs B were comfortable winners of the Bradford Pairs Knockout after beating Clayton 79-61 in the final at West Bradford.

Asa carded three out of four winners and fully deserved to lift the title for the first time.

The Pairs Knockout has not been played since 2005 due to a lack of numbers but the decision to open it up all clubs, rather than just teams in the Pairs League, proved a successful one. Scores (Clayton names first): B Harrison & I Briggs 9, G McCafferty & J Fleming 21; P Lister & S Wilkinson 17, S King & C Foord 21; P Gill & P Kaye 14, A Denton & A Heenan 21; M Smith & R Holmes 21, S Sansom & M Hirst 16: Clayton A 61, Asa Briggs B 79.

The final of the Four-a-Side Knockout (sponsored by Kolorco and Howard Smith Paper Group) followed, with Asa Briggs B overcoming clubmates Asa Briggs C.

The C team had the bigger handicap advantage but started as massive underdogs and the B team overturned their disadvantage in three out of four games.

Matthew Pearson won 31-23 against Christine Wilkinson and when Andrew Denton came off 31-18 up against Clive Foord, the match was effectively over.

Stuart King beat Steve Wilkinson 31-19 but Andrew Heenan could not make it a full house as he went down 31-29 to Ken McCafferty.

Scores (Asa Briggs B names first): A Denton (3) 31, C Foord (4) 18; M Pearson (5) 31, C Wilkinson (13) 23; S King (2) 31, S Wilkinson (10) 19; A Heenan (4) 29; K McCafferty (12) 31.
