Yorkshire Inter-District League Division One champions Bradford No 1 take on last season’s runners-up Sheffield No 1 in a top-of-the-table clash at Lilycroft WMC on Saturday (7.30pm).

The positions are reversed at present with Sheffield No 1 leading the table on 34 points, from Bradford No 1 and Castleford on 30.

The contest is expected to be a fascinating one with Chris Melling, Sajid Khan and Jason Walton in good form the last time out. Anyone wishing to watch will be welcome.

Bradford No 2, who are in fourth place just two points behind, travel to third-placed Castleford on Saturday.

Bradford’s entrants in last Sunday’s Yorkshire Snooker Championships at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds all failed to qualify.

Laisterdyke Cricket Club’s Lee Atkinson came the closest to going through, beating Rae Longley in round one before coming from 2-0 down against Bradford No 2 captain Hanif Rafiq to win 3-2, Rafiq having beaten Andy Kitson 3-1.

Atkinson lost out for qualification to Thorne’s Ian Glover, who made a 121 break in progressing to next month’s quarter-finals.

County player Brett Miller put out Bradford’s Kevin Firth 3-1 on his way to qualifying.

Cuedos’ Sajid Khan breezed through his first match 3-0 against Anthony Banham before falling controversially 3-2 to Leeds’ Richard Binns.

Needing only one ball to win, match, Khan found himself angled and snookered with little possibility of hitting the ball on, but was pulled for a miss on several occasions, providing Binns with the platform for the victory.

The second stage of qualifiers at the Northern are on Sunday, with Howard Mawson taking on Yorkshire Under-19 champion Chris Keoghan, and Gareth Green playing Scott Croley.

In the Bradford Snooker Championships, 2008 runner-up Mark Slater (Great Horton Conservative Club) beat Laisterdyke WMC’s Dean Parker 4-0, although the result didn’t reflect the contest.

Cuedos manager Ilyas Khan put out Anthony Herdsman (Undercliffe Cricket Club) 4-1.

There was also a good win in the Bradford Pairs Championship by Andy Hodgson and Joe Halliday from Tong Liberal Club, who defeated Wibsey Conservative Club duo Damien Bentley and Tony Rhodes 3-0.

Players in both singles and pairs are reminded that matches must be completed by March 1, with the draws for the quarter-finals taking place shortly afterwards.

Second legs in the quarter-finals of the Flexprint Services-sponsored Hey's Trophy and second round of the E Rosse Hopkinson Plate are scheduled for tomorrow night.

Would all captains please forward the result sheets to the appropriate tournament director as soon as possible following their match.
