The two Bradford veterans teams in Division Three of the Yorkshire League were both chasing promotion so there was a lot at stake in their weekend derby clash.

Defeat for Bradford 4 would put them out of the title running.

Bradford 3 have dropped only one point so far and were in second place in the table, one point behind leaders Hull 3 and one point ahead of Bradford 4.

The third team of Mick Holt, George Bak and Mick Kosmowsky proved too strong and ran out 9-1 winners, with Chris Town gaining the consolation set for the fourth team with a win over Kosmowsky.

The victory almost guarantees Bradford 3 promotion and sets them up nicely for a title decider in March when they travel to Hull.

In the Bradford League, Steve Whitaker maintained his place at the top of the Division Three averages with two wins for Unity C against Fastbats C but the family bragging rights went to his son Michael, who, on the same evening starred for Unity E in their home fixture against Baildon C.

Michael did not drop a game in his three wins and, with Craig Chambers winning two and Peter Jackson one, Unity ran out 6-4 winners.
