Defending champion Wayne Cooper has once again made it through to the Yorkshire Snooker Championship final.

He defeated youngster Gareth Green 4-0 in an all- Bradford semi-final last Saturday at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds, making three breaks of over 50 in the process.

Cooper has hit peak form at the right time of the season and will look forward to the final in May with confidence.

His opponent will be Jonathon Bagley from Leeds, who beat his fellow clubman Alan Trigg 4-1.

Cooper was also in action at the weekend for Bradford No 1 in the Yorkshire Inter-District League against third placed-Castleford at Thornton Conservative Club and got the home side off to the perfect start, making a break of 97 against Pete Fisher, followed by a black-ball victory in his second.

Simon Bedford struggled in his opening frame against John Arnold, who grinded his way to victory, before normal service was resumed as Bedford made a frame-winning 49 to put Bradford 3-1 up.

Castleford gave a debut to Darren Browning, who brought his side closer with a good opening-frame win over Mark Slater, but Slater made an excellent 67 clearance to give Bradford a 4-2 victory.

Bradford are now tied at the top of Division One with Sheffield No 1, who make the trip to Thornton Conservative Club this Sunday (7.30).

In Division Two, the battle for the second automatic promotion spot is picking up pace as the season draws to a close, with third-placed Bradford No 2 closing the gap on Sheffield No 2.

Green put the home side in front against Wakefield No 1, clearing with one red remaining and 30 behind, but opponent Richard Binns made an fine 89 break to level the match.

Boover Singh shared frames with Mick Ramsbottom and Hanif Rafiq took both frames comfortably against Wayne Haigh to give Bradford a 4-2 win.

With only two games to play, things couldn't be tighter and promotion will go down to the final game of the season on April 27, when Bradford entertain Sheffield at Manningham Ward.

The Flexprint Services-sponsored Hey's Trophy semi-finals have concluded and the final will be between Cuedos A and Laisterdyke Cricket Club A.

Cuedos won comfortably against Lilycroft WMC A, the highlight of the tie being a break of 83 by Green.

Laisterdyke were conceding 340 points start per leg against Northcote Conservative Club and were made to fight all the way, eventually winning on a black-ball game.

The final will be played on Thursday, April 17 at Undercliffe Cricket Club.

In the E Rosse Hopkinson Plate, East Bowling Unity Club will play Eccleshill Victoria Cons, and Buttershaw Lane WMC will take on defending champions Birkenshaw Libs in the semi- finals.

They start next Thursday, with the return legs on April 17, and sheets will be sent to the clubs involved by this weekend.

The final for this competition is scheduled for Thursday, May 1 at Lilycroft WMC.
