MICHAEL Sweeney (Netherton) won the latest Spen Victoria CB&AC Winter Sweep after beating Kevin Siddle (Ladyhill) 21-16 in the final.

Sweeney defeated the previous week's winner Mark Regan (Brighouse Sports) 21-14 in the quarter-finals before seeing off Gary Wike (Pudsey).

Siddle led 6-1 in the final before Sweeney used his green knowledge to edge ahead 11-9. Siddle dug deep to regain the lead at 16-14 before a seven-break gave Sweeney his second Winter Sweep success.

There is no Winter Sweep on Christmas Eve but there will be one on Boxing Day before Saturday action resumes on January 7, when the event already has a maximum of 36 names.

Tattersley ended the 18-match winning run of Gareth Coates when beating him 21-17 in the semi-finals, having not won a match at Brighouse in previous winter sweeps.

Edmondson showed his class with wins over Chris Mordue (Pudsey) 21-17, Alex Wolfenden (Overthorpe) 21-14, Marc Armitage (Littlemoor) 21-18 and Mark McGorlick (Akroydon Victoria) 21-9 to make it to the final.

He was then was always in control there while easing to his first Brighouse Winter Sweep title.
