PUDSEY'S Thomas Hanson has won the Victor Ludorum Invitational Merit, sponsored by John Summers (Family Butcher), defeating Stewart Firth (Harold Park) 21-9 in the final.

The Champion of Champions should have involved 16 invited bowlers in what is the end-of-season finale, although it was disappointing that two failed to turn up.

Hanson's second victory in the event – he also won in 2010 – came via earlier victories over Peter Barstow (Shelf) 21-14, Andrew Tate (Clayton) 21-15 and Gareth Coates (Akroydon Victoria) 21-18.

Runner-up Firth, a very underestimated bowler, showed his class with wins over Neil Tordoff (Wyke) 21-10, Simon McGorlick (Akroydon Victoria) 21-18 and Graeme Raey (Cononley) 21-17 before meeting his match against Hanson.
