THE weather impacted on games in the Bradford Saturday League.

Only three fixtures survived in the Naylor Premier section, with Eccleshill A v Brighouse Sports A postponed and Whitkirk v Pudsey A abandoned after four jacks.

In the matches that went ahead, Clayton A drew 15-15 at home to title challengers Crossgates, with Ian Briggs 21-1 and Robert Holmes 21-6 being the pick of four home winners for Clayton, while Gareth Lally and Mark Taylor both carded 21-8 victories to ensure the visitors left with a share of the points.

Shipley Club A won 23-7 against Asa Briggs A, who slide deeper into trouble despite a great 21-9 for Jack Summers.

Starring for Shipley were Graeme Dytiche 21-5, Kieran Bannister 21-5, Daniel Metcalfe 21-7 and Robbie Ellis 21-7.

Peter Bailey's 21-5 win for Ladyhill A ensured a 19-11 victory at basement club Wyke A, with Tony Throup 21-8 showing some resistance for the hosts.

The top of the Godwin second-tier competition could not be closer, with only one point separating the top three teams with four games to play.

Cononley, currently top, suffered a surprise 17-13 defeat at relegation-threatened Brighouse Sports B, which opens the door for Pudsey B and Littlemoor A.

Pudsey B carded a 19-11 home win over Rufford A, thanks to Mark Dobson 21-0 and Tom Lawrence 21-8, while Littlemoor A went down 16-14 at Akroydon Victoria A courtesy of a great 21-3 from Lee Wider, with Bailey Dawson 21-5 and Chris Wilmott 21-9 also doing damage for the hosts.

Guiseley A condemned relegation certainties Eccleshill B to another defeat, beating them 24-6 with Tom Cater 21-7 and Graham Oliver 21-9 the pick of eight home winners.

Elland C&BC beat Clayton B 20-10 thanks to Gordon Bradford 21-6, Darren Hennessy 21-7 and Andy Speechley 21-8, despite a great 21-5 effort from Ken Brenkley.

Hove Edge A look certain to be crowned winners of the Observer third division following a superb 24-6 win at Ladyhill B.

Kenny Barker 21-3, Paul Audsley 21-4, Richard Hopley 21-5, Lynne Saxby 21-8 and Suzi Ladbrooke 21-8 were on top form for the champions-elect, with Darren Owthwaite 21-8 and Scott Bloodworth 21-9 showing resistance for Ladyhill.

Shipley Club B scored an impressive 19-11 win on Friday evening at Hightown, thanks to victories from Paul Wilczynski 21-6 and John Sample 21-9, but then suffered a 16-14 loss at Horsforth Woodside A, where Andy Wood and Jeremy Waller did the damage with 21-9 victories.

Drighlington were helped by wins from Derek Goor 21-1, Ronnie Benton 21-6 and John Bailey 21-9 in a 20-10 home success over Hightown, Gerald Bromley replying with a 21-3.

Greengates managed four winners at Littlemoor B as they scraped a 15-15 draw, with Bryn Jones 21-0 and Carl Goodall 21-6 starring.

Peel eased to a 21-9 home verdict against Hipperholme & Lightcliffe A, with Bon Denby 21-6 and Donald Shorten 21-8 the pick of six home victors.

* FINALS night in the £5,300 Brighouse Classic takes place on Saturday from 5.30pm.

Graeme Wilson (Audenshaw) bids to regain the title, with a tough opener against Lower Hopton clubmate Ashley Tattersley being a repeat of the 2014 final.

* BLACK Swan won the IB Thompson Four-A-Side Competition, beating Tarnfield in the final at Greenbottom.

Swan came through Pool C, beating Guiseley – winners for the past two years – into second place, while Tarnfield emerged from a tough Pool A after finishing one point ahead of Greengates, who were a point in front of Farsley.

In the semi-finals, Black Swan edged out Ilkley and Tarnfield shocked Myrtle, thanks to a great 21-4 from Dan Carter.

The final was one-sided following wins by Adam Varley 21-8 and David Hodgson 21-4 as Black Swan won by 29 chalks.

* THE Farsley Winter Pairs gets underway on Sunday, September 18 with the first of eight qualifying rounds, finals day being on Sunday, November 13.

In each qualifying round, 16 pairs will play down to two qualifiers, with an entry fee of £15 per pair and a first prize of £800.
