YORKSHIRE were taken right to the wire before defeating Shropshire 421-417 to win the Crosfield Cup in the final of the British Crown Green County Championship.

The match between two strong teams did not disappoint and Yorkshire made the better start in the home match at Elland C&BC, carding three out of four winners with Graeme Wilson (Lower Hopton) 21-8 the pick of them.

Meanwhile, Jack Dyson (Netherton Con) was the only winner in the away match at Greenfields, with Yorkshire leading by 13 chalks after four jacks at home and four away.

Shropshire hit back at Elland, carding two winners in the middle four jacks, while Yorkshire did the same at Greenfields with a stunning man-of-the-match performance from Stuart King (Littlemoor), who demolished Callum Wraight 21-4 in a near-perfect game.

Yorkshire had extended their advantage to 16 chalks after eight jacks at each venue.

Then Shropshire hit the lead when Tom Roden (S J Bayley) produced a great 21-3 at Elland, only for Ashley Daykin (Netherton Con) to notch an impressive 21-10 at No 12 as Yorkshire edged the home aggregate by a point.

It was just as tight at Greenfields and, with three out of four Yorkshire bowlers behind, the game looked to be heading the way of Shropshire until James Davison (Thongsbridge) produced a captain's performance with a 21-6 success as Yorkshire edged the away aggregate by three chalks – and with it took the title.
