SKIPTON AA

Skipton Winter League competitors found themselves among plenty of fish when they lined up on the banks of the 'Coal Bunker' stretch at West Marton last Sunday. Unfortunately, the fish were mainly very small roach, ruffe and gudgeon, which were attracted by squat and bread punch baits. Leading weights consisted of up to 100 of these fish. Larger fish were few and far between, with the best being a roach of 550g (1:3:8) landed by Simon Chenior.

Result: 1 Darren Wright 630g (1:6:0), 2 Russell Heaton 610g (1:5:4), 3 Simon Chenior with 570g (1:4:0); 4 Bill Davenport (league secretary) 450g (1:0:0), 5 Andy Wharton 290g (0:10:0), 6 Jason Aldis 240g (0:8:8). Pairs: 1 Heaton & Aldis 850g (1:14:00); 2 Wright & Thomas 630g (1:6:0); 3 Bradley & Davenport 580g (1:4:4); 4 Chenior & Waterfall 570g (1:4:0); 5 Wharton & Maguire 370g (0:13:0).

Leading positions (three matches left) – Individuals: 1 Darren Wright 96pts; 2 Dave Fenn 91; 3 Russell Heaton 80; 4 Andy Wharton 77; 5 Ernest Ramsbotham 69. Pairs: 1 D&R Fenn 41; 2= Wright & Thomas, Heaton & Aldis 38; 4 Ramsbotham & Cockshott 32; 5= Bradley & Davenport, Thornton & Eason 27. The next match will be on the canal behind the hospital at Skipton on Sunday, November 1, draw 8am on the car park.

The recent long spell of settled weather will probably have broken down in midweek, with a period of wind and rain followed by drier but milder conditions. Leaves may be a problem on most waters but sport should be reasonable providing there is not too much water about.

Skipton members who fish Whinnygill Reservoir may find that the water level has begun to rise now that work on the suspected leak has been completed. The much lower water level has helped to provide excellent sport over the summer months but at the expense of making access to the water's edge difficult for some members.
