YORKSHIRE carded an impressive 19-12 win over South Yorkshire in their final group game of the BRITISH PARKS SENIOR TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP, and with it a place in the final on Sunday, September 20.

In the home match at Hanging Heaton, Yorkshire carded nine winners, with Bob Whitfield (Brighouse Sports) the pick of them winning 21-9, as Yorkshire took the aggregate by 31-chalks.

In the away match at Meersbrook BC, Yorkshire managed five winners, with Eccleshill’s Andy Gilroy carding a superb 21-6. South Yorkshire won the home aggregate by 23-chalks but it was Yorkshire who took the extra 3-points for winning the overall aggregate by just 8-chalks.

Yorkshire still await their final opponents but will surely start as strong favourites after an impressive qualifying campaign.

Tommy Johnstone (Poynton) and Robbie Fitzpatrick (Wirral) were week three qualifiers in the 2015 SPEN MASTERS sponsored by P & I Hopkins Butchers of Birkenshaw.

Johnstone defeated Mally Fowler (Ladyhill) 21-10, Phil Lee (Merseyside) 21-20 before an impressive 21-11 win against current All-England champion Ashley Daykin (Netherton). Fitzpatrick made it through with wins over Alan Croft (Alverthorpe) 21-8, Mike Tunstall (Merseyside) 21-13 and Ian Nicholson (Kendal) 21-19.

The 2015 PUDSEY CLASSIC got underway last weekend with qualifying rounds one and two. The qualifiers on Friday evening were Chris Slater (Colwyn Bay) and Wayne Ditchfield (St Josephs).

Slater was in terrific form, beating former finalist Simon Coupe (Preston) 21-15 in the first round before a tough 21-19 victory against Dave Hallam (Sheffield). In his final qualifying game he defeated Graeme Wilson (Lower Hopton) 21-11.

Ditchfield made it through to finals day with wins over Scott Woodward (Sheffield) 21-16, Dean Missere (Sheffield) 21-10 and Kevan Shaw (Westhoughton) 21-19.

On Saturday evening, Andy Spragg (Thongsbridge) qualified beating Liam McEgan (Eccleston) 21-15, Simon Walder (Lower Hopton) 21-14 and Dan Jones (North Wales) 21-18, while the legend that is Robert Hitchen (Lower Hopton) made it through with wins over Richard Jackson (Thongsbridge) 21-16, Dave Cowsill (Alverthorpe) 21-10 and John Bailey (North Wales) 21-18.

Bradford suffered a narrow 29-27 defeat against Huddersfield in their penultimate match of the YORKSHIRE VETERANS INTER DISTRICT LEAGUE.

In the home match at Asa Briggs, Bradford only managed four home winners – all were Eccleshill bowlers, with Paul Hillam 21-7 and Rod Bastow 21-8 the pick of them.

In the away match at Thongsbridge, Tony Riley (Clayton) got Bradford off to the perfect start, carding a superb 21-11 victory, but Huddersfield replied with three winners of their own. Bradford fought hard and managed two more winners, as they went down to an 18-10 defeat.

This means that Bradford go into their last match against Halifax with a 21-point lead over their opponents and Huddersfield, who take on Castleford.
