THERE was a thrilling finish to the season in Division 2B of the Bradford Table Tennis League as the destination of the title went to the final set of the season.

Laisterdyke B needed a 9-1 victory over Fastbats C to pip Rastrick to the championship, but Fastbats were missing Terry Miller, so Laisterdyke already had three sets in the bag.

David Blackburn threatened to spoil the party as he won the opening set for Fastbats but Mohammed Murtaza and Mukhtar Khan put them on track with three each, although they both needed five games to overcome Blackburn.

Azim Afzal won the final singles against Jim Illingworth, so the doubles would decide the title.

Blackburn and Illingworth took the first two games but Murtaza and Khan kept Laisterdyke's title hopes alive by taking the next two games but the Fastbats duo edged the decider 11-9.

Rastrick and Laisterdyke were both now on 101 points but Rastrick took the title by virtue of more matches won.

In Division 3B, Bradford College ended their first season in the league as runners-up following their 6-4 victory at Hermits J.

Yutaro Tsuji and Graham Burrill were both unbeaten, and Tsuji finished with 57 wins from 60 sets to finish second in the averages behind Alex Waring.
