Liam Griffin (Pudsey BC) won the Yorkshire Crown Green Individual Merit after defeating Graeme Wilson (Elland WMC) 21-18 in the final at Elland CA&BC.

Having qualified through a tough field at Peel Park on Friday, Griffin started finals day as the 6-1 second favourite behind 7-4 shot Wilson.

Griffin was consistent throughout, beating Nigel Breadley (Silsden Playing Fields) 21-6, Andrew Heaume (Canalside Sports) 21-16, Adam Douglas (Canalside Sports) 21-14 and Dean Scarth (Hanging Heaton) 21-3 to make it through to the decider.

This could have gone either way and Wilson was holding two at 18 across, only for Griffin to produce a cracking shot to lead 19-18.

A double himself at the next end then saw Griffin crowned Yorkshire Merit champion.

Quarter-finals: Dean Scarth (Hanging Heaton) 21, Dave Cowsill (Canalside Sports) 15; Liam Griffin (Pudsey BC) 21, Adam Douglas (Canalside Sports) 14; Graeme Wilson (Elland WMC) 21, Kieren Smith (Crossgates) 14; Phil Dowgill (Cross Hills) 12, Ashley Daykin (Netherton Con) 21. Semi-finals: Scarth 3, Griffin 21; Wilson 21, Daykin 13. Final: Griffin 21, Wilson 18.

* Dawn Bray (Ossett Flying Horse) beat Linda Gledhill (New Mill) 21-19 in a superb final to win the Yorkshire County Ladies' Merit (Hyman Morris) for the first time.

The competition at Bilton Dragon in Harrogate was marred by heavy showers but that hardly affected the quality as eight players qualified for the British Crown Green Ladies' Merit final at Pennfields in Wolverhampton in July.

* Leeds were crowned Yorkshire Parks Inter-City champions for the first time in 35 years after beating Sheffield 204-120 in the final at Rothwell BC.

Sheffield had seen off Bradford, Aire-Wharfe and Barkston Ash in the group stage but found Leeds too hot to handle, with the final effectively all over after the first games came off the green.
