Average per rod: Fewston 4.1, Swinsty 0.7, Thruscross 5.7. The heaviest fish caught was a 5lb rainbow trout by Richard Atkinson using daddy long legs. Fewston: Cooler weather and plenty of fly life for trout to feed on has improved fishing this week. Sedge and daddy long legs taking good strong trout. Swinsty: Trout and perch following Meps spinners. Thruscross: An abundance of daddy long legs and heather fly has seen wild brown trout feeding just below and from the water’s surface.

LISTERHILLS AA

It is with regret that we hear of the death at an early age, after a brief illness, of pleasure angler Peter Harrison. Condolences are extended to his widow and his three angling brothers. The last open match at Rodley was won by G Kitchen (2lb 7oz), 2 Storey (2lb 2oz), 3 E Harrison (1lb 13oz), 4 D Stephenson (1lb 10oz). The committee match at Tadcaster was won by E Harrison with a catch of chub and dace weighing 15lb 4¼oz. Bookings are now being taken for the Ian Smith Memorial open match on the canal at Armley on Sunday, September 29. Proceeds will be split between the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research. BRADFORD No 1 AA

Ultimate Barnsley’s Keith Hobson won the fifth round of this year’s Calder League with 19lb 2oz of trout and grayling from Gravel Pits. Bradford’s Aidy Lewis caught 17lb 12oz for second place, followed by Daz Taylor with 17lb 2oz. The final round will take place on September 29. The Calder Championship takes place this Sunday in Brighouse with the first prize being £500. Tickets are available from Simon on 01274-571175. All of the club’s sections of the River Calder will be closed for this match and Beal will be closed for an outside booking below the bridge tomorrow and above on Sunday. Gratrix Dam is fishing well for ide and chub and Maunby is worth a visit for chub and barbel.

The small lake at Staveley will be closed on Saturday for an open match. There is currently one golden peg worth £100 and a silver peg worth £50. The river Ure at Boroughbridge and Lower Dunsforth are starting to fish well also.
