Keighley-born teenager Jonny O’Mara’s impressive run to the semi-finals of the Aegon GB Pro-Series tournament at Ilkley was finally halted today.

O’Mara came unstuck 6-2, 6-1 against fellow Briton Tom Farquharson, who booked a place in the final against Marcus Daniell of New Zealand.

And to complete a disappointing day for the 18-year-old, he and partner Marcus Willis were also knocked out of the doubles semi-finals.

Seventh seed Farquharson had few problems in getting past O’Mara, who had knocked out both third seed Neil Pauffley and doubles partner Willis, seeded fifth, earlier in the week.

Farquharson said: “I’m playing well. Leading up to the grass-court season, I reached the semi-final stage of a number of tournaments and then in Manchester last week I reached the final on grass. Now I am hoping to go one better at Ilkley.”

Another sizzling-hot Ilkley day – in terms of not only the weather but also the action at the Kirbys International Tennis Festival – saw Daniell oust second seed Antoine Benneteau of France.

A gruelling match which lasted just three minutes short of three hours finished with a scoreline of 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in favour of the Kiwi.

Daniell had already endured a three-set quarter-final a day earlier and is clearly thriving at the grass-court venue.

The eighth seed said: “It feels good to come through two marathon matches in this beautiful arena. I hope I can take it all the way now.”

The day’s doubles semi-finals saw Daniell in action again and the gruelling nature of his singles campaign did not appear to take its toll.

Seeded first with British partner Richard Gabb, they edged through to the final at the expense of talented British fourth seeds O’Mara and Willis 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 after an entertaining contest.

The other last-four contest involved two sets of British players in a very close affair. George Coupland and Joe Salisbury finally won through against 2012 Australian Open junior doubles champions Liam Broady and Joshua Ward-Hibbert, seeded second, 6-3, 6-7, 10-7. Play for the men’s singles final between Daniell and Farquharson starts at 1pm tomorrow, with the doubles to follow between unseeded pair Coupland and Salisbury and overwhelming favourites Daniell and Gabb.
