Fish were in the process of spawning during last week’s match at Pilley’s, while many were just under the surface in the heatwave and reluctant to feed. The winner was E Harrison (2lb), with G Kitchen (1lb 15oz) second and D Stephenson (1lb 14oz) third. Several pike were hooked and lost. The draw for Saturday’s open match at Rodley is 9am by the bridge. Anyone who is a beginner or has not yet fished may be interested in a project which is part of National Fishing Monthly. WASHBURN VALLEY

The heaviest fish caught during the week was a 7lb 2oz rainbow trout by J Martin using black/orange buzzer. Fewston: Trout are feeding on buzzer and nymph morning and evening but moving into deeper water to avoid the high sun. Swinsty: Perch, chub, bream and rainbow trout are being caught on the spinner. Ledgered worm are taking trout. Thruscross: Brown trout are feeding on buzzer blown into the shallow areas. Catch details (week ending July 7) – Day ticket: Fewston 28, Swinsty 11, Thruscross (catch and return) 1; total fish caught: Fewston 132, Swinsty 26, Thruscross 6; average per rod: Fewston 4.7, Swinsty 2.4, Thruscross 6.0.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT AC

Our next trip is to Rhyl next Wednesday. This is a rearranged trip which should have taken place on Saturday and is now full. Anglers who are going on this trip should try to attend the next general meeting for travel arrangements and a weather report. This meeting is next Tuesday at the New Inn, East Bierley, starting at 8pm. New members will be made most welcome. There are still one or two places left on our week’s fishing holiday to Culdaff in Ireland. Anyone who would like to go should call ring Roger on 07773-139460 to book.

BINGLEY AC

The River Wharfe at Boston Spa and Kearby are fishing well for chub and barbel, with caster and pellet the preferred baits. The next match is at Sunnydale Reservoir on Sunday, July 21. The club, with other fishing groups, will have a stall at Bingley Show in Myrtle Park on Saturday, July 20 in the bottom meadow, along with an excellent fly fishing demonstration. It will be well worth a look.

BRADFORD CITY AA

The small lake at Staveley will be closed on Saturday for the annual Morphet Cup (veterans match). This is open to all members over the age of 60.
