As a former professional, Mark Hirst probably didn't need the run of the balls - but he got them anyway in dominating the Bradford Billiards Championship final.

Hirst got off to a flying start in the two-hour final against Richard Lodge at The Harold Club, with breaks of 50 and 90 in the first half-hour, followed by further runs of 45 and 95 before the half-time interlude.

Lodge, as well as getting little time at the table, found the balls running very unkindly on several occasions.

It was only in the last ten minutes of the session that he had the chance to get his score moving, but still trailed 334-104 at the interval.

Any hopes of a recovery were dashed by a further break of 84 from Hirst soon after the resumption, followed by a 64 break around the mid-point.

The second session did, however, provide Lodge with occasional opportunities to show his ability, particularly with a break of 52 towards the end, but the final score of 689-306 reflected how much in charge Hirst was.

The Yorkshire Snooker Championship final and presentation takes place on Friday at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds (7.30pm), having been delayed due to Oliver Lines' progression in the Australian Open qualifiers recently.

The match sees Lines from Leeds hoping to reverse the result from last year's final, when Sheffield's Dave Portman defeated the youngster 4-1 to lift the title.

The presentation that follows will see Bradford No 1 presented with the Yorkshire Inter-District League trophy, Kevin Firth and Wayne Cooper with the Yorkshire Snooker Pairs trophy they won recently, and youngster Russell Morgan will receive the Yorkshire Under-16 silverware he won back in January.
