Bradford Table Tennis League Division One title favourites and defending champions Highdale B lost their 100 per cent record when they came up against an inspired Ian Denton for Dewsbury Sedbergh.

Highdale had only conceded 12 sets in winning their first six matches but their perfect start was shattered when they found Sedbergh in top form.

Denton showed his intent from the off as he took care of Graham Manicom in straight games and Sedbergh were soon 4-1 up as John Stones and Dave Heppenstall beat Pete Morgan and Manicom, and Denton continued his hot streak against Morgan.

Highdale rallied as Mark Land and Morgan reduced the deficit to 4-3 but Sedbergh finished them off with Stones defeating Manicom, and Denton completed his night’s work by coming from 2-0 down to beat Land 13-11 in the fifth as Sedbergh finished worthy 7-3 winners.

Pudsey B moved to the top of Division Four with a ruthless display against bottom-of-the-table Unity F.

Maurice Wrigley and Paul Dykes were both unbeaten, while Kingsley Smith added two, losing in the last singles to Lynne Thompson. The 9-1 victory gave Pudsey a three-set advantage over Hermits F.
