Heavy rain accounted the for the cancellation of the Stan Cox Memorial Trial at Bayliss Gap Farm, Bewerley on Sunday.

The Nidderdale venue was too waterlogged to stage the trial that commemorates a respected Leeds Yorkshire Centre ACU official and teacher.

The policy regarding the Bayliss Gap venue is to maintain the woodland area at all times and avoid any chance of damage to the terrain.

The club have not made any decision regarding applying for another trial date.

The big event this weekend is the Northern Experts trial at Wildboarcloug, where 130 competitors will be aiming to grab the coveted title.

Dan Thorpe won last year but he will be hard pressed on Saturday when Scott Trial winner Michael Brown rides his first Experts event.

Only 16 contend the title route while the others will be aiming for a clubman victory.

Harsthead’s Stewart Oughton was fourth last year and could be in with a chance on Saturday.

On the home front, Horsforth Motor Club stage yet another Bob Owen Memorial Trial at Tong.

The club have donated over £40.000 to charitable causes over the years and no doubt they will do it again on Saturday.

The trial commemorates one of the great characters in Yorkshire motorcycle sport circles, Bob Owen. Mr Owen was President of the Yorkshire Centre ACU in 1966, a life member of the Centre, a sidecar racer, commentator and a prominent speedway referee officiating many times at Odsal, Halifax, Sheffield, Belle Vue and Hull tracks. He was also a leading member of the Horsforth Motor Club.
