IF it was a good weekend for Bulls, it certainly was for Warrington youngster Max Wood too.

And even his performances in the last fortnight might mean we do not see him at Odsal again, Bradford head coach Eamon O’Carroll could not be happier for the young prop forward.

Having made his Super League debut under Wire boss, and Bulls legend, Sam Burgess in February, Wood was sent on loan to Bulls last month to get regular game time in the Championship.

He shone on debut, scoring a try in a 29-10 league win over Halifax on Good Friday, but Burgess needed him back for Warrington’s Super League clash on Friday against Leeds at Headingley, where he looked right at home in his side’s superb 34-8 away win.

That meant Bulls had to beat Featherstone without him on Sunday, and they know they may have seen the last of him.

After Sunday’s game at Post Office Road, O’Carroll said: “We’re not sure about his availability for us going forward

“We’d love to have him back, as I think he’s been great for us, but the pleasing thing for me was he came here, got a game, played really well and that helped him get an opportunity for Warrington in Super League on Friday night.

“That’s fantastic, and for me, I hope he kicks on there and plays week in, week out in Super League.

“But a lot like for some of our younger lads, sometimes you have to go out and play somewhere else and that helps accelerate your development.

“So if we do get the opportunity to bring him back, then we’d welcome that.”

Bulls had a new prop this week, with Fenton Rogers coming in on loan from Huddersfield, having shone in his first temporary spell at the club last season.

There is a cloud currently hanging over the 20-year-old’s personal life, as he was charged with drink driving and was bailed in relation to an (alleged) assault of an emergency worker a couple of weeks ago.

Despite a looming court date on Thursday, May 16 for Rogers, the youngster cleared his head enough to make a solid return to the Bulls side on Sunday.

O’Carroll said afterwards: “I thought he did well today, but I think there might be odd bits he’ll be disappointed with.

“He was trying to find his feet a little, because he’s not played a lot of rugby of late.

“He went to London Broncos on loan, but he’s kind of dipped in and out of their side.

“But he’ll be good for us, and everyone here still speaks highly of how he performed in his spell at Bulls last season.

“He’s got that monkey off his back now of playing his first game back here, and he gets to train with us and reconnect with the group again.”
