AN ENTERPRISING Nottinghamshire counter-attack, led by Chris Read and Stuart Broad, left Yorkshire’s match at Trent Bridge fascinatingly poised when the players came in for lunch.

Resuming at 151-5 on the final day of the County Championship contest, the hosts had reached 299-8 by the first interval of the day with Read on 78 not out and Jackson Bird unbeaten on one.

Andrew Gale’s bowlers had the ideal start when Samit Patel was brilliantly caught by Joe Root off Jack Brooks without adding to his overnight score of 51.

But the Yorkshire attack were then subjected to a dynamic onslaught from Read and Broad, who added 104 in 20 overs before Broad was taken by Adam Lyth at second slip off Brooks for a 57-ball innings of 55 which included eight fours and a six.

Jake Ball then hit 22 with four fours and a six before being bowled middle stump by David Willey.

But Nottinghamshire scored 148 runs in 30 overs during the session to lead by 270 going into the final two sessions of the Division One match.
