THE cricket at Scarborough was of high quality on the third morning of Yorkshire’s LV= County Championship match against Durham but the home side face a tough battle to secure their eighth win of the season.

After dismissing Yorkshire for 440 in their second innings, Durham reached lunch on 107-2 with Scott Borthwick unbeaten on 31 after Graham Clark was trapped lbw by Liam Plunkett for 36 on the stroke of the interval.

Durham therefore need another 340 to win after a session in which the Yorkshire seamers bowled a fine attacking length but were sometimes hit for boundaries as a consequence.

The first wicket to fall was that of Mark Stoneman, who had hit eight fours in his 37 when his fierce straight drive off Tim Bresnan was caught by the bowler as he pouched a superb reflex catch in his right hand.

Steve Patterson failed to cling on to an almost equally sharp caught and bowled chance off Borthwick when the batsman had made two.

Earlier, Patterson had hit some fine boundaries to take his own score to 36 as Yorkshire added 20 runs to their overnight total before the Beverley seamer lost his off stump to Graham Onions.
