JACK Brooks struck twice with the new ball to get Yorkshire off to a flier at Worcester, but England’s Moeen Ali has since led a home recovery through to lunch on day one of the new season.

After the hosts opted to bat, Brooks (2-10 from six overs) had Richard Oliver caught behind with his fourth ball and Daryl Mitchell caught at second slip fending at a rising delivery, leaving the score at 11-2.

Moeen has offered two sharp chances, one between wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd and captain Alex Lees at first slip on nought off Ryan Sidebottom, and the second, which went to hand, off Steve Patterson with him on 21. Will Rhodes could not hang on at short cover.

Worcestershire resumed after lunch on 77-2 from 30 overs with Moeen on 31 and Fell 40.
