Alex Lees column

FOR us, playing Nottinghamshire tomorrow is the ideal scenario.

We know that a good draw or win at Trent Bridge, we’d rather do it with the latter, will see us home in the LV= County Championship title race, and we don’t have to look anywhere else.

All we need to do is concentrate on our game against the team closest to us in the table.

If you were playing another team, you could be forgiven for having one eye on what Notts were doing.

We’ve hammered away all season. It’s been our philosophy from April to September.

We’ve concentrated on each session, each over. We’ve got eight days of cricket left, and I’m sure if we keep doing that, we’ll be there.

In the context of the season, Wednesday’s final day against Lancashire was prob- ably the most important we’ve had.

We knew the Notts result at Durham, and we were unstoppable when we came back out after lunch.

We’ve played some good cricket all year, especially with the red ball, Our last three games have been unbelievable, starting with Middlesex at Scarborough, then Sussex and Lancashire.

It was obviously a disappointment for us to hear the news about Andrew Gale’s ban following the incident with Ashwell Prince at Old Trafford, and we’re gutted for Galey that he will be missing the last two matches.

Galey is a committed character who gives his all on the field, and he’s led us with great control.

He’s also a good player and valuable member of our batting line-up. When you need some runs and you have your backs against the wall, he generally comes through for us.

There’s not much more inspiration needed for us because a chance to win the Championship is enough, but there is that attitude to make sure we’re switched on to get over the line for Galey as much as ourselves.
