BRADFORD & Bingley's new opener Jack Edgar hit a maiden Bradford Premier League century as his side inflicted a first defeat of the season on Cleckheaton.

Edgar struck four sixes and 13 fours in an unbeaten 110 which helped his side to post a score of 242-5.

Matthew Walker made an unbeaten 45 and followed up with 5-69 as Cleckheaton were bowled out for 227 in reply. Chris Holliday (69) and James Lee (51) made half centuries but couldn't spare their team from defeat.

Elsewhere, Farsley and New Farnley registered their first wins of the season, while Morley and Lightcliffe played out the first tie in the top flight.

Farsley chased down a challenging Pudsey Congs total of 147-8 with eight balls to spare thanks to a fine effort from their top order batsmen.

James Pickles (56) and Arthur Price (42) gave the innings a sound foundation, which was built on by skipper Dan Hodgson (61) before Greg Pickles steered his side home with an unbeaten 70.

Defeat was tough on Congs batsman Andrew Bairstow. He made a sparkling unbeaten 109 which contained seven sixes and seven fours.

Skipper Gareth Phillips gave him good support with 77, while Chris Henry was the pick of the Farsley bowlers with 4-41.

New Farnley's first victory was achieved with some ease. They defeated East Bierley by eight wickets, a result which sent their victims sliding to the bottom of the table.

Once again the East Bierley batting failed as they were bowled out for just 123. Former Yorkshire, Northamptonshire and Essex spinner James Middlebrook took 4-4, and was backed up by Mark Lawson (3-26) and Muhammad Bilal (3-23).

Only Bjorn Taylor (46) and Fahid Rehman (37) made an impression for East Bierley.

Lawson crowned a good all-round performance by making 57 as he and Simon Lambert ensured that their side reached their target in just 20.3 overs.

There was a dramatic finish at Scatcherd Lane where Lightcliffe needed two runs from the last ball to beat Morley, but Mark Horne was run out attempting a second run as the game was tied.

Such a dramatic finale seemed unlikely when Morley were reduced to 48-6 when they batted first, but wicketkeeper Luke Heinemman made a fine 77 and the experienced Colin Nuthall 43 to enable their side to post a challenging total of 173.

Jonathan Whiteoak (6-33) impressed for Lightcliffe and was supported by overseas player Suleman Khan (3-30).

Lightcliffe found run-scoring tough but Chris Taylor (41), Rhys Jowett (35) and Ian Philliskirk (31) helped them edge towards the Morley score in the face of some tight bowling from Kashif Naveed (3-37).

Leaders Hanging Heaton had a comfortable eight-wicket win over newly-promoted Scholes. Overseas player Muhammed Rameez took 4-48 as Scholes were dismissed for 178 with only Yassir Ali (68) making an impression.

Openers Nick Connolly (68no) and Gary Fellows (49) ensured their side had no problems securing their third win, to lead the table by six points from champions Pudsey St Lawrence, who also have three wins to their name.

Their latest victims were Woodlands who they defeated by 25 runs. Once again they were guided towards their match-winning total of 220-9 by the dependable Mark Robertshaw.

The left-handed opener made 97 and received support from skipper James Smith (42) and fellow opener Adam Waite (33). Off spinner Kez Ahmed was the best of the Woodlands bowlers with 4-69.

Skipper Tim Jackson (43) top scored for Woodlands who lost wickets at key times as off spinner Steve Watts (5-37) and Richie Lamb (3-16) took full advantage.

Logan Weston (37) and Scott Richardson (35no) were unable to spare their side from a second defeat in a row
