PUDSEY St Lawrence secured the JCT600 Bradford League title for the first time in 24 years as they defeated Cleckheaton by 66 runs at Moorend.

Saints' victory over the 2013 and 2014 Division One winners saw them finish 29 points ahead of Woodlands, who suffered a five-wicket defeat against Lightcliffe.

The title-clinching win was set up by a good batting performance after St Lawrence were asked to bat first on a pitch which gave assistance to the bowlers.

Opener Adam Waite made 76 as Saints passed the 200 mark, which enabled them to claim sufficient points to bag the championship.

Chris Marsden (39) provided good support to Waite in the face of some impressive bowling from Iain Wardlaw (5-55).

Cleckheaton lost their last six wickets for 33 runs as they slipped to 144 all out. Skipper John Wood (36) and Mally Nicholson (35) were their top scorers as Marsden (4-33), Steve Watts (3-23) and Josh Wilson (3-38) shared the wickets.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Duce claimed the one victim he needed to complete the double of 500 Bradford League victims and 5,000 runs.

Woodlands finished second despite suffering their second-successive defeat as they were made to pay for another disappointing batting performance when going down by five wickets.

Opener Sam Frankland (50) and Grant Soames (38) saw their efforts go to waste as Chris Greenwood (4-17) and Josh Wheatley (3-62) bowled out Woodlands for 171.

Lightcliffe eased to victory as Rhys Jowett (50) and Josh Wheatley (30) ensured they ended the season on a high note.

Farsley saved themselves from relegation when they dismissed New Farnley for 71 to secure the 70-run win which enabled them to climb out of the bottom two at the expense of Undercliffe, who return to Division Two after just one season alongside Saltaire.

Yorkshire's James Wainman (5-22) and Neil Laidlaw (4-45) bowled Farsley to victory as they defended a modest score of 141. Dan Hodgson (47) and Greg Pickles (36) top-scored as off-spinner Dave McCallum took 6-17 for New Farnley.

Undercliffe finished an agonising one point behind Farsley after their 116-run defeat by Hanging Heaton in a match reduced to 40 overs per side after a delayed start.

Once again their batting crumbled as they were dismissed for 72 in reply to Hanging Heaton's 188-7. Dan Busfield (7-22) was the man who put the skids under Undercliffe.

Hanging Heaton, who finished fourth a point behind Cleckheaton, made 188-7 when they batted first thanks to skipper Gary Fellows (95), with Ismail Dawood making 35 as he passed 5,000 career runs.

Saltaire said goodbye to Division One on a high note with a 113-run win over Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup winners Bradford & Bingley.

Amer Ayoub made a superb 103, hitting one six and ten fours, while Asif Ayub (54) and Shoukat Ali (42) helped push the total up to 238-6 despite the fine efforts of Richard McCarthy, who took 4-58 in his final game.

Bradford & Bingley had no answer to Michael Eglin (6-35) as they were bowled out for 125. Charlie Best (38) was their top scorer.

Pudsey Congs ended their campaign with a 21-run win over East Bierley. Opener Nick Lindley (86) and Callum Geldart (54) helped them to post a score of 259-6.

East Bierley made a spirited reply and finished on 235-7, Richard Atkins top-scoring with an unbeaten 91.

Meanwhile, Morley were crowned Division Two champions despite suffering a nail-biting one-wicket defeat at Baildon.

Morley secured the three points they needed before Baildon edged past their total of 198-7 with ten balls to spare.
