PUDSEY Congs completed the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup semi-final line-up after beating Bankfoot by 102 runs in their rain-delayed third-round tie.

They now face a trip to Lightcliffe on Sunday, July 12 after seeing off the challenge of the last remaining Division Two side in the JCT600 Bradford League's blue-riband competition.

Bankfoot put Congs in after winning the toss in the hope of capturing early wickets but Callum Geldart (72) and Nick Lindley (31) kept them at bay in a stand of 85.

With skipper Gareth Phillips (43) helping Geldart add 78 for the second wicket, Congs had the perfect launchpad for the later batsmen to up the run rate.

Andrew Bairstow (54) and Joe Greaves (34) then shared a partnership of 52 for the fourth wicket as Congs built an imposing total of 295-8.

The evergreen Greg Colehan, who has taken over 1,000 Bradford League wickets, was Bankfoot's most successful bowler with 4-69.

James Holdsworth (27), Cosmond Walters (25) and Neil Nicholson (24) all got starts for Bankfoot but nobody was able to make a decisive score, with the biggest contribution to the 193 total being 34 extras.

Congs bowled 23 wides, and that is a figure they will want to greatly reduce in the semi-finals, where Bradford & Bingley will travel to New Farnley in the other tie.

Bingley are through to the last four of the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield as well, and will be at home to East Bierley after both teams won their delayed third-round ties in the second-team competition.

Ryan Norris played a key role for Bingley in their tense ten-run win over league new boys Scholes.

He made 40 in a total of 173 and followed up with 6-46 as the Scholes run chase came up just short.

Ben Cross (4-44) had reduced Bingley to 26-3 before Hamzah Iqbal (42) and Richard McCarthy (36) sparked a revival.

Scholes lost wickets at key times in the reply but John Hill, coming in at No 8, made a brave bid to turn the game in his side's favour. He was unbeaten on 43 when Bingley clinched the final wicket.

The battle between Division Two's top two turned out to be a one-sided affair, with table-topping East Bierley winning by nine wickets at Saltaire.

James Higgins, who is Bierley's leading wicket-taker this season, took 5-43 and Ross Monaghan 3-20 as Saltaire were bowled out for 128.

Bierley then took just 15 overs to knock off the runs, with Liam Walsh scoring an unbeaten 64 and Stuart Kirk 43 not out in an undefeated second-wicket stand of 127.

The other semi-final on July 12 will be between Morley and Pudsey St Lawrence.
