New Bulls recruit Manase Manuokafoa admits he needs no extra motivation to impress in 2012 as he looks to stay at Odsal beyond next season.

The Tonga international was recruited from NRL outfit Parramatta Eels following spells with South Sydney and North Queensland Cowboys.

He was handed a one-year contract by Bradford but that could be extended should Manuokafoa sufficiently impress at Odsal in the coming campaign.

The Sydney-born front-rower will be handed his Bradford debut today when he lines up against Castleford in the Bulls’ first pre-season friendly.

Having moved his wife and young stepson to West Yorkshire, Manuokafoa is determined to succeed in Super League and carve out a more long-term future with the Bulls.

He said: “Do I want to earn a longer deal? That’s my goal, for sure.

“First of all I need to train hard during pre-season, take my chance with both hands and see how I go from there.

“At the moment it’s cold, wet and muddy and I need to adapt to the conditions. That’s my main aim right now.”

Bulls chairman Peter Hood added: “The potential for a longer deal is certainly there for Manase.

“We’ve signed a number of players on one-year deals during the Mick Potter era and then extended them, such as Chev Walker and Shaun Ainscough.

“We are confident that Manase will similarly fall into that category.”

Manuokafoa has another long-term goal: representing Tonga in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, to be staged in the UK.

“Hopefully I can play good enough footie at Bradford to get picked when that particular stage comes around,” he said.

“But for now my main objective is to have a big pre-season, get a couple of tries under my belt and then go from there at the start of the year.”
