Tom Burgess has no immediate plans to follow his three brothers Down Under – he is more concerned with continuing his impressive rise to prominence in Super League.

The rookie Bulls prop is the only remaining member of the Burgess clan still plying his trade in England after former Bradford favourite Sam was joined at South Sydney Rabbitohs by Luke and Tom’s twin brother George.

The boys’ mother Julie has also been tipped to join her three sons in Sydney, raising doubts about Tom’s future at Bradford.

Yet at 6ft 5in and over 18 stone, the 19-year-old Bulls academy product can stand on his own two feet.

And after the outstanding breakthrough year he enjoyed in 2011, Tom is focused on maintaining his current progress and says he could remain at Odsal beyond his current deal, which expires at the end of next season.

The front-rower has spent plenty of time with his three brothers recently after they returned to West Yorkshire to visit family and friends before going back into training for the 2012 NRL season Down Under.

Tom said: “I’ve still got another year left at Bradford and have not made any plans yet to go over there [to Australia].

“We’ll just see how I go over the next season with the Bulls and hopefully we can have a good year.

“I haven’t been offered anything by Bradford yet and we’ll probably just see what happens come mid-season next year and maybe get into talks then.

“To be quite honest I’ve always wanted to make a name for myself in the English game.

“It’s obviously where I’m from and I just want to play here first and foremost and then maybe think about heading over to Australia later on in my career.”

Sam reckons his younger brother will benefit from staying at Odsal and continuing his education in the English game.

Sam said: “I know he’s enjoying his time at Bradford and I played several years in England before making the move to Australia and it was a good grounding for me.

“He’s got a lot of friends here, both inside and outside of rugby, and the main thing is for him to make his own decisions and not to be influenced by other people.”
