Mick Potter will explore his options before attempting to solve the Bulls’ hooker conundrum.

Both front-line rakes, Matt Diskin and Heath L’Estrange, are out for the remainder of the season, leaving resources seriously thin on the ground.

Diskin will undergo surgery tomorrow to fix a long-standing shoulder problem and talented teen Adam O’Brien seems the obvious replacement.

But Potter insists the 18-year-old is not the only potential solution and has time to mull it over before facing Hull KR in ten days.

“There’s a couple of options there so we will see who pulls up best,” said Potter. “A couple of players are a little dusty but we’ll get one or two back from injury for Hull KR.

“I was happy to see the under-20s get a really good result last weekend against a Warrington side who have not lost many.

“Credit goes to Stuart Barrow for that but also to the players. Adam O’Brien, John Bateman and Shad Royston all went well and it gives me something to think about.”

Back-row duo Ian Sibbit and Jamie Langley could both return against Hull KR, the latter providing another option at hooker.

Meanwhile, Potter paid tribute to Diskin, despite losing his battle against injury.

“He’s been carrying it for a while but can’t keep sustaining it and he needs to get in and get it fixed up,” said Potter.

“He wants a good pre-season under his belt next year, so having the operation now will allow him to do that.

“He knew it was time because he was not able to keep up the level of performance he expects from himself.”
