Adam O’Brien has his sights set on a Super League debut after today committing his future to the Bulls.

The highly-rated England Academy hooker has agreed a new three-year deal that will keep him at the club until the end of 2013.

Despite being just 17, O’Brien has already made a huge impression on the club’s coaching staff, pushing himself to the verge of first-team action with a string of stellar performances for the under-20s.

And with the start of pre-season less than two weeks away, he is determined to prove his worth to incoming coach Mick Potter.

“I was happy to sign the new contract because I really enjoy it at Bradford,” said O’Brien, the brother of Bradford City star Luke.

“I’m going back in next week so I will have a good few months of pre-season and try to show the new coach what I can do. Hopefully then I’ll get my chance.

“Last year I could’ve got my chance with the injuries we suffered but the coaches didn’t want me to because the time wasn’t right.

“I’m not a million miles away and now it’s just about getting that chance. I feel I can do a job.”

Recruited from Siddal ARLFC in January last year, O’Brien is entering only his second year in full-time training with the Bulls but already feels right at home.

He said: “When I signed for the club, a few other clubs had been asking me to go to them and made good offers. But they weren’t family clubs like Bradford and they didn’t have the same feel.

“Bradford welcomed me and my family and made me feel at home. Any promises they made when I joined the club have come true, so they have always been honest with me.”

Bulls head of youth development Paul Medley praised the progress the Halifax-born youngster has made in his time at Odsal.

He said: “Adam has worked very hard since he came to the club and has made great strides in his drive to be a professional player.

“His attitude is spot on and he has developed both physically and skills-wise in his time at the club.

“The good thing from our point is that he really sees his future at the club and wants to play for the Bulls.”
