Bulls legend Jimmy Lowes has joined Steve McNamara’s England coaching set-up.

Lowes will work as an assistant to his former Odsal team-mate, teaming up with previous appointment Brian Smith, who coached the pair during Bradford’s first Super League campaign.

A former Great Britain star himself, Lowes is currently first-team coach at Warrington under Smith’s brother Tony, who stepped down as England coach last year after three years in charge.

The 40-year-old was also a part of the GB coaching set-up in 2007, working as an assistant alongide McNamara.

England play a mid-season Test against France next week before jetting off to New Zealand at the end of the club season for the Four Nations.

“I’m really pleased Steve asked me to rejoin the England set-up,” said Lowes. “It’s good to be back in the fold.

“My job is to assist the coaching staff and assist Brian Smith when we get out to New Zealand for the Gillette Four Nations. I’ll just do my best for the team.”

McNamara added: “Jimmy will help in all parts of the organisation. He’s a fantastically loyal person who will bring a toughness and resilience to the group. He’s an experienced coach who has been developing over a long period of time and I’m delighted he’s joined us.

“Jimmy is a very smart coach in his own right and will be able to carry messages onto the pitch in the appropriate manner.”
