Wayne Godwin hopes knock-out football will bring out the best in the Bulls once more.

Defeat to Crusaders last weekend has been the only blip over the past two months – although it was a significant one – but Bradford are confident of regaining form and confidence in tonight’s Challenge Cup round-five clash with Leigh.

A switch from the week in, week out grind of Super League to the ‘all or nothing’ atmosphere of the cup cannot fail to help sharpen minds at Odsal.

Leigh may ply their trade a division below but there will still be absolutely no margin for error, no chance to make amends for slip-ups and Godwin is relishing the opportunity.

He said: “It can bring out the best in you. You have to understand the importance and what it means to the club.

“It is a massive competition. It’s a different challenge to Super League and we just have to get this one knocked out of the way and see who we get in the next.

“We need to be at our best, there are no excuses.

“We’ve trained hard this week and we’ve trained well. Hopefully we can get back to winning ways and put in a good performance as well.”

Godwin sees this year as one of his best opportunities yet to enjoy a decent Challenge Cup run.

Success in the prestigious competition has proved largely elusive for the livewire rake, with just one semi-final appearance with Castleford in 2002 to his name.

But he has experienced plenty of knock-out hiccups and is not about to let Leigh’s Championship status colour his view of the tie.

He said: “The closest I’ve been was back in my Castleford days when I played in the semi-final and that was an unbelievable atmosphere, playing against Wigan at Headingley.

“It’s a great competition and everyone wants to play at Wembley.

“We’ve got to respect Leigh but we have prepared like we prepare every week and come tonight we will be playing with confidence.

“We can’t wait for the game and hopefully there will be a lot of Bradford fans down there to support us on this Challenge Cup run.

“We’ve got a lot of respect for Leigh and they’re a team who’ll be playing with a lot of confidence.

“They’re one of the top teams in their competition and I don’t think they’ve lost a game yet.”

The date for Jamie Langley’s testimonial race night has changed.

Initially scheduled to take place on Sunday, it will now be held in the Coral Stand at Grattan Stadium on Monday, May 31.

Original tickets are still valid for the rescheduled date and tickets can still be bought from the Bulls’ ticket office or by emailing jamie.langley2010@hotmail.co.uk.

The event costs £10 for adults and £5 for juniors.
