Brave Bulls ace Steve Menzies plans on leaving his bride-to-be waiting – and the longer the better!

But the Aussie star isn’t getting cold feet about his big day next month and won’t be in the dog house either.

He knows if fiancee Suyin is home alone in Sydney it means the Bulls’ play-off dream is still alive and kicking. The Bulls need to beat Hull FC tomorrow night and pray Catalans lose against St Helens to actually make the eight.

But if that happens, Menzies then hopes to be continually delaying his flight back to Oz so resurgent Bradford can march on towards Old Trafford.

A few weeks ago, the Bulls had no realistic chance of plotting a play-off bid – and Menzies admits their sensational late burst has caused some unexpected problems.

“I think a few of the boys had tentatively booked flights to go away too!” laughed the second-rower.

“Mathematically, getting in could happen but it wasn’t really a feasible scenario.

“We have got the chance now and I don’t know for sure but I think a few of the boys are calling some airlines saying ‘Can we cancel those tickets!’ and maybe hopefully they will put them back a month.

“I was leaving next week because I’m getting married on the 16th of next month.

“But we literally only got engaged a couple of weeks ago and started organising it then so my missus has been crazily running around.

“We said we’ve got a date at the end of the year and she’s now organising it inside eight weeks, which is a fair effort.

“But she’s booked to leave on Tuesday whether I’m with her or not.

“She’s got to get home and do whatever they do – cakes and dresses and all that sort of stuff!

“But I’m here just week to week and then I’ll be in trouble if I don’t get straight home!”

Reaching the Super League Grand Final – just six days before he gets hitched – would be a perfect wedding present for Menzies.

But he realises that dream can not even start to come to fruition unless the Bulls – aiming for a sixth win from seven – do the business at KC Stadium tomorrow night.

The heat is suddenly back on Bradford now there is so much at stake.

“We haven’t really been under too much pressure this last month,” admitted Menzies.

“It never really occurred to us that we could make it until last weekend when all the results went our way. But if you’re going to go anywhere in the semis you need to be able to withstand this type of pressure.

“Going to Hull is the ideal warm-up; it is a must-win match, and we’ll see how everyone handles that.

“It’s obviously a lot easier when everyone’s playing well.”

The majority of this season has been disappointing for the Bulls but Menzies added: “Everyone’s piece of the jigsaw puzzle is now fitting where it’s supposed to and the cogs are moving in the right direction.

“It’s great we’re playing good rugby now and one more step – and a bit of luck – and we’re in there.

“It’s not like only the top four can go on and win the Grand Final either. I think any of the eight on their day can beat each other.

“There’s been plenty of upsets throughout the course of the year and, when semis start, everyone is level again.”

Meanwhile, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are set to announce on Friday their capture of a third Bull.

Stand-off Ben Jeffries will follow Glenn Morrison and Terry Newton to Belle Vue, rejoining his former club after a late u-turn on a move to Celtic Crusaders.
