Broken wrist victim Nick Scruton has been given the thumbs-up to start full training with his new club.

The Bulls’ winter capture from arch-rivals Leeds Rhinos has been waiting for the green light following surgery at the end of last season.

However, he was told on Monday that the injury had fully healed and he will now be ready for Bradford’s Super League kick-off against Harlequins on February 8.

With Sam Burgess also on the mend, boss Steve McNamara is delighted two of his main enforcers are ready to go.

“It’s great news,” he said. “Nick’s been in plaster for a long time and the scaphoid is always a tricky injury.

“A lot of rugby players have had them and a lot don’t ever fully recover.

“They can suffer from poor blood supply and a lack of mobility in that area so we’re really pleased by the specialist’s report.

“When he first went back to have the pot off he had to have it re-potted again but now it’s off for good and he’s been told he can crack on with everything.”

Odsal chief McNamara is now looking forward to seeing the talented front-rower in proper action.

“Since he’s come here, Nick’s been a pleasure to have around the place,” he said.

“He’s going to be doing a lot for us next season and he’ll bring a lot to our game.

“He’s eager to get going now and we’re all looking forward to seeing him in a Bradford Bulls jersey.”

Scruton hopes to make his debut in one of the club’s two friendlies, at Dewsbury Rams on January 23 or at White-haven the following weekend.

The Morley-born player, who has signed a three-year deal at Grattan Stadium, initially injured his wrist during Leeds’ play-off game against Wigan in September.

However, he played through the pain barrier and had an injection to make sure he could take his place in the Rhinos side that eventually went on to defeat St Helens in the Old Trafford final.

He had surgery on his wrist soon after and has been restricted in some of his training sessions since joining up with Bradford last month.

But now the 23-year-old – who turned down the chance to stay with the champions in favour of a move to the Bulls – is primed for action following this latest news and ready to bolster his new club’s own push for glory.
