BRADFORD Bulls skipper Kirsty Moroney was a mixture of pride, astonishment and humility after her team had won the inaugural Women’s Super League Grand Final at Manchester Regional Arena.

Following their 36-6 victory over Featherstone Rovers that completed a league and Challenge Cup double – and a 100 per cent season – she said to a backdrop of cheering Bulls fans and one noisy drummer: “I am so proud of the girls and everyone involved with the club. We can’t stop smiling!

“It was close just before half-time but Charlotte Booth’s try then gave us a bit of breathing space.

“We got into a bit of an arm wrestle and we tried to turn the screw towards the back end of the game and we kept hold of the ball.

“If we have to play boring rugby to get the win then that is what we will do.”

The humility came from the support that her team gets, and Moroney, who set the Bulls on their way with a try in the first minute, said: “”The support has been unreal.

“They came to the Challenge Cup final, and it just makes you feel so special to have these die-hard Bulls fans behind you.”

The astonishment came from their 100 per cent season, and Moroney added: “I have played a long time and never gone through a season unbeaten.

“We just set out to win some silverware but in our wildest dreams we didn’t think that we would go unbeaten.”

* Joe Keyes has been named in the Ireland squad for the World Cup in Australia.

The Bulls half-back, who has just signed a new deal to remain at Odsal, is part of an experienced group led by Wakefield veterans Liam Finn and Scott Grix.

The 24-man outfit includes 14 Super League regulars, including Wigan hooker Michael McIlorum, a survivor from 2008 who is reverting to his original choice after playing for England in the last World Cup, St Helens forwards Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Kyle Amor, and Leeds’ Grand Finalists Anthony Mullally and Brad Singleton.
